2017 Freedom

Early in 2017 I began to find new ways of combining abstract expressionist stylistic techniques with hard edged geometric elements. This combination provides a much greater range of expressive possibilities. It is very difficult to do however, because the image always has a tendency to either become totally free and gestural, or become very controlled, tight and precise. Being able to combine free, expressive, gestural and accidental marks and passages with crisp, careful and precise elements, lines and still achieve a final dynamic balance is one of my essential goals.
