2016 Multiples

Early in 2016 I was given the task by a gallery to: make a piece no larger than 36" x 36", using the theme 'Multiple'. This is the solution I came up with:

There are seven canvases altogether. Five canvases are 12" x 12" and two are double squares at 12" x 24". I devised a special backing board which was painted mat black. All seven paintings can be rotated and hung in any position on the backing board very easily, creating multiple possibilities. In this gallery you can see the finished piece, a plan numbering the individual paintings and then the individual paintings alone. It was extremely difficult to ensure that all the paintings worked together, no matter what position they occupied. This piece then gave rise to my 'Circle Series' later in the year.
